Fire guts House at North Suntreso

Kumasi(Ashanti), 22 Jan. ’99 –

Fire razed down a house at North Suntreso in the Kumasi Metropolis on Wednesday, destroying personal effects valued at about 1.4 million cedis and cash of about 6,000,000 cedis.

None of the four occupants of the house suffered any injuries.

Mr Kwabena Anto, assemblyman for North Suntreso electoral area, disclosed this when he conducted Mr Yaw Oppong-Kyekyeku, Kumasi Metropolitan Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), round to inspect the havoc.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Mr Anto appealed to the NADMO and non-governmental organisations to demonstrate their sympathy to the fire victims by assisting them to rehabilitate their house.

Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku also appealed to other disaster victims in the Metropolis to exercise restraint as his organisation works feverishly for the release of funds from the metropolitan assembly to assist them.

He advised residents to always engage competent electricians to wire their houses as most of the fire disaster cases reported to the NADMO were attributed to poor wiring systems.

Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku entreated residents to be more careful in the use of electrical appliances and put off all electrical gadgets when going to sleep or to work.

Mr Oppong-Kyekyeku later presented a number of blankets and plastic cups to the fire victims.
