Tema, Jan 16, GNA – Fire in the early hours of Friday swept through a chemical manufacturing company in the Tema heavy industrial area destroying property worth thousands of Ghana cedis. The fire, which started at dawn, consumed the warehouse and parts of the offices of Chemkoat Industry near Nestle Ghana Limited.

Mr Prince Billy Anaglatey, Tema Fire Public Affairs Officer, told the Ghana News Agency that but for the swift response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the fire would have spread to the factory. Mr Anaglatey said firemen were dispatched to the premises after the service received a distress call at 0242 hours. He said with support from the fire departments of the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) the fire officers spent three and a half hours to bring the fire under control due to the highly flammable chemicals involved.
