Fire displaces 20 people at V/R

Fire at the weekend swept through five houses at Ave-Atanve in the Akatsi North District and displaced 20 people.

The thatched houses and all properties in them worth thousands of cedis were burnt to ashes.

The cause of the fire is not known.

Afetor Kadziku, a victim, told the Ghana News Agency that his two sons who were washing groundnuts outside his compound raised alarm about smoke in their room but before people could come around, the fire extended to four other houses.

Togbui Hodzi Dunyo, Chief of Ave-Atanve and Ghana’s representative for Utopia Africa Canadian Organisation, presented some relief items to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to be given to the victims.

Mr James Gunu, the Akatsi-North District Chief Executive, cautioned against bush burning and advised people in the District to adhere to fire safety practices.
