Fire destroys wares worth hundreds of millions at Hohoe

Hohoe, May 9, GNA- Fire on Tuesday gutted a provision store, the Simogad Ventures at the Hohoe main market destroying wares worth hundreds of millions of cedis.

Mr Simon Gador, proprietor of the shop and two others, who collapsed in the milieu are recuperating at the Hohoe District Hospital where they were rushed.

Mr William Chidiak, Landlord of the chain of stores, briefing the Ghana News Agency said it is suspected that a candle, which was lit to offload goods into the warehouse the previous night, which was not put out sparked the fire.

He commended volunteers for preventing the spread of the fire into adjoining stores, as the personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) at the scene were incapacitated by logistical constraints with the only tender in the Hohoe district, said to be under rehabilitation. Mr Chidiak was grateful to the Police for providing security for the items retrieved, which averted an imminent looting. 9 May 07
