Fire destroys Tema bank

Tema, Nov. 04, GNA – The timely intervention by firemen saved the International Commercial Bank (ICB) at Tema from being razed down by fire.

Only a computer and part of the customers’ counter got burnt in the 20 minutes fire outbreak that occurred last night. Mr Henry Ephson, Customer Sales and Marketing Officer of the bank told the Ghana News Agency that he received a distress call from eyewitnesses around 11 pm that smoke was coming from the bank.

Mr Ephson said on arrival at the scene, fire personnel from the Tema office of the National Fire Service had already put out the fire with the assistance of their counterparts from the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA).

He attributed the cause of the fire to severe lighting in the area that hit one of the computers and affected the counter saying “an assessment would be made of the electrical system to take preventive measures.” Mr Ephson commended the firemen for their prompt action that prevented a disaster.

He assured customers of the bank that the incident would not affect their operations.

When the GNA arrived at the bank on Friday morning, the workers were preparing to start work.
