Fire destroys ECG transformer.

Fire has destroyed a transformer of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) which serves part of the central business area of Accra. The fire was brought under control five minutes after the arrival of firemen. The transformer is estimated to cost between 40 and 60 million cedis, according to ECG engineers on the scene. The G 18 sub-station sited on the Paterson Zachonis Company (PZ) premises at Cow Lane in Accra, supplies power to a number of companies, including PZ, UTC and New India Assurance Company.
