Fire destroys consumables at Winneba Government Hospital

The timely intervention of fire service personnel from Winneba and Agona Swedru prevented a fire outbreak at the Winneba Government Hospital on Monday from spreading to other places, Dr George Prah, Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, has said.

Dr Prah, who was conducting Mad Pokuwaa Sawyer, Deputy Central Regional Minister, round the Hospital, the fire started at about 2230 hours on Monday and that its cause had not yet been established.

He said even though there were no casualties, the fire caused extensive damage to medical consumables including surgery equipment, uniform materials, laboratory reagents, stationery, folders and computers and accessories.

Dr Prah said the Hospital would have to operate with some few items in the next two weeks and appealed to the Ministry of Health, NGOs, philanthropists and other corporate institutions to assist the Hospital.

Mad. Sawyer was accompanied by Nii Ephraim, Effutu Municipal Chief Executive and personnel from both the Central Regional and Effutu Municipal offices of the National Disaster Management Organization.
