Fire destroys 13 houses

Nkoranza (Brong Ahafo) 25 Jan. ’99

A bushfire swept through Kwadwo-Fakrom, a farming community in the Nkoranza district, destroying about 13 thatched houses in the village. Personnel effects, foodstuffs and livestock estimated at more than 15 million cedis were destroyed in the fire. The incident which occurred when the people were on their farms rendered about 100 people homeless.. The odikro of the village, Mr Samuel Sor, appealed to the Nkoranza district assembly and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NAMDO), individuals and NGOs to come to their aid. The district rural fire co-ordinator, Mr. S.Y. Kyeremeh who visited the village after the incident advised the people to always construct fire belts around their homes and farms.
