Fire burns two women to death

Kumasi, July 1, GNA – A 58-year-old mother and her daughter were on Tuesday burnt to death, when a fire gutted their seven-bedroom house at Medoma in the Kwabre District of Ashanti.

Madam Agnes Osei and her daughter, Victoria Osei, 38, were burnt beyond recognition, when the fire swept through their room in the night. The cause of the fire was not immediately known, since there was no electricity connection to the house.

Police Inspector Mohammed Tanko of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Unit, who briefed the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Friday, said a fire servicewoman at the Mamponteng fire station reported the incident to the police after the personnel had been able to put off the fire.

He said the bodies of the victims had been deposited at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital mortuary, while investigations were going on.
