Film director remanded for fraud

Sekondi, Feb. 4, GNA – A district magistrate’s court in Sekondi on Tuesday remanded Enoch Agyeman, a film director, for fraud. The accused person, who pleaded not guilty, would reappear before the court on February 17 this year.

Police Chief Inspector Eben Darko told the court that the accused person and Sama Jones, the complainant, a draughtsman, both resided in Kwesimintsim in Takoradi. He said in 2007, Agyeman demanded 200 Ghana cedis from Jones to help him secure a job at Skyy FM in Sekondi. Chief Insp. Darko said the complainant made part payment of 140 Ghana cedis and gave two DVD digital cameras, valued at 1000 Ghana Cedis, to the accused person as a guarantee until the rest of the amount was paid. Prosecution said that Agyeman could not fulfil his promise and went into hiding until January 23 this year when Jones spotted him at Essikadu in Takoradi and caused his arrest. Chief Insp. Darko said while Agyeman was in custody, five other persons reported to the police that he collected various sums of money totaling 187 Ghana Cedis from them under the pretext of recruiting them as actors and actresses. 4 Feb. 09
