Legal practitioner, Ace Ankomah has described as a “big joke” and a “charade”, the fight against corruption in the country. Citing a litany of evidence to demonstrate how corruption is been normalised in Ghana, Ankomah mentioned that processes leading to the registration of lands at the Land Commission as well as National Security checkpoints at the Airport are all fraught with corrupt officials and activities.
“The so called fight against corruption is a joke,” he stated at a public forum on confronting corruption organised by policy think tank- IMANI and pressure group Occupy Ghana.
In his view, people are compelled to be corrupt in their daily activities due to the fact that corruption has become the norm rather than the exception.
“The fight against corruption in Ghana is like a journey from Accra to Takoradi. As you drive on the road, you begin to see signposts with numbers written on; 50, 80 and you wonder what it means because you never took a driver’s test when you got a license…The fight against corruption is a joke,”
“…Our efforts at fighting corruption is nothing but a joke, charade, mockery and hoax”, he fumed.
