Members of the Young Urban Women project have appealed to Metropolitan, Municipal and District assemblies to put in measures to forestall an outbreak of cholera as the raining season approaches.
The group, which was formed and sustained by Actionaid Ghana under its Young Urban Women: life Choices and livelihoods project, said people died needlessly during the 2014 cholera epidemic and appealed to all Ghanaians to help their assemblies keep the environment clean.
The group numbering over 30 in the Ga West Municipality had held discussions with Mr. Samuel Atukwei Quaye, Ga West Metropolitan Chief Executive at Kpobiman, to commemorate World Water Day.
Mr. Quaye promised to improve the water situation in the municipality by providing six mechanized boreholes before the end of the year.
Mr. Quaye said the theme; “Water and Sustainable Development” was in line with government’s commitment to the provision of safe and affordable water to all Ghanaians.
He said plans were far advanced to help mitigate the water problem battling the community for some time now and promised he would reduce the water burden considerably before the end of his tenure as the Municipal Chief Executive.
Actionaid Ghana’s Young Urban Women: life Choices and livelihoods project which is funded by Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) takes the form of advocacy for the promotion of sex education and rights of women.
