Onwe (Ash), Aug 17, GNA- Fifty-two trainees of the Onwe Vocational Institute passed out on Sunday with a reminder to them that the certificates they had acquired were their first step in life. Mr Yaw Ahenkora Afrifa, Ejisu-Juaben District Chief Executive who addressed the trainees said vocational training for the youth formed an important part of government’s policy on employment generation for the youth.
The trainees spent six months at the institute and were taught soap making, leather works, tie and dye and catering. The DCE said government’s emphasis was on vocation training so that the youth would be empowered to create their own wealth through skills they had acquired.
The government, he said would give them loans to start their own businesses so that in addition to empowering them economically, it would stem the rural-urban drift of the youth.
The Reverend Atakora Gyimah, Proprietor of the institute, asked people in the district to take advantage of the school and give their children skill training.
