Fifty-Two Peer Educators Attend Workshop On Road Accidents

Wa, Sept. 14, GNA – The Upper West Regional Road Safety Committee had organized a day’s sensitisation workshop for 52 peer educators and agents from all the eight districts in Wa. The workshop, organised for women and musicians was part of the Regional Road Safety Committee’s efforts at reducing road related accidents in the region.

Addressing the participants, Mr George Anko-bil, the regional police commander, who is chairman of the committee appealed to drivers and pedestrians to observe at all times the highway code, as pertains to their usage of the road.

He urged them to exercise extreme patience, when plying the road pointing out that records indicate that most accidents on the country’s roads were due to human error.

Mr Anko-bil therefore, advised pedestrians and drivers to exercise a high degree of concentration when on the roads to avoid human error related accidents.

The Regional Road Safety Committee chairman urged the peer educators to portray through music and other artistic talents, the need for discipline on our roads in order to spare Ghanaians to agony and trauma of losing loved ones prematurely through road accidents. Mr Nuhu Mahama, the industrial relations officer of the GPRTU urged wives of drivers not to unduly disturb their husbands, as this is likely to affect their concentration, while driving. Other speakers included Mr Fred Nuwor of the MTTU and Mr Haruna Moomin of the Road Safety Committee.
