FIC Boss must resign for unlawfully probing Vicky’s account – NPP MP

NPP Lawmaker Alex Afenyo-Markin is calling on the Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Intelligence Centre to resign immediately.

According to the Effutu MP, Samuel Essel must resign for launching a probe into dismissed Deputy Minister of Communications Victoria Hammah’s bank accounts following the vikileaks saga.

The Financial Intelligence Centre has written to all financial institutions to furnish it with account details of Victoria Hammah.

She was heard on a leaked tape saying she wouldn’t risk her job with petty squabbles with other Ministers when she didn’t even have a million dollars to boast of in her account.

Alex Afenyo-Markin in an interview with XYZ News said the FIC has overstepped its boundaries with unlawful probing the accounts of Victoria Hammah.

He added that the young lady who has been taught a political lesson is being treated unfairly.

“FIC has exceeded its mandate because I consider what Victoria Hammah said to be a political blunder and the Lady has suffered the political consequences of it.

“But within the context of the law I don’t think FIC has any such powers to write to the bankers or the banks in Ghana and urge them to disclose the details of Victoria’s account.

“FIC is not an investigative body and that is very clear…I think to say the least the Chief Executive must resign”.

Mr Afenyo-Markin further advised the dismissed deputy minister to go to court to stop the FIC from going on with the probe.
