Few candidates write private BECE in Brong-Ahafo

A total of 74 private candidates are set to write the first edition of the private Basic Education Certificate Examinations (BECE) in the Brong-Ahafo Region, Mr Ernest Akyea Mensah, the Acting Regional Director of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) disclosed on Wednesday.

The examination is slated for Monday, February 16.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, Mr Mensah said the Council was disappointed about the number of candidates writing the examinations, and attributed it to low publicity.

Mr Mensah noted that many students who obtained aggregate 30 in the examinations, gained admission to second cycle institutions after the Council made changes in the qualification grades, which is currently pegged at grade 40.

He advised the candidates to desist from all forms of examination malpractices, stressing that invigilation would be strict, and therefore, culprits would be sanctioned.

Mr Mensah entreated them not to panic, but prepare adequately as the examination questions would be based on the basic school syllabus.
