Fetu Afahye Launched

The Omanhene of Oguaa Traditional Area, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, last week, launched this year’s Fetu Afahye Festival of the chiefs and people of Oguaa Traditional Area at the Sanaa Lodge here.

This year’s festival, the Omanhene said, has the theme “Towards Development of Cape Coast” with a target of ?1 billion which aims at establishing an industrial village at Mpeasem, a suburb here, to create jobs for the youth of the area.

Flanked by some of his sub-chiefs and supis, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II hinted that the last Oguaa Congress held in Cape Coast yielded only ?25 million, which is to be used to prepare a 200-acre land already acquired with the layout and site plan for the proposed industrial village. To a question, he explained that at the moment only 200 acres of land had been acquired, adding that plans are afoot to acquire more land when the need arises.

He intimated that it is the decision of his traditional council to embark on general cleanliness of the town to enhance good health care for the people of Oguaa and its environs as the heart-bent of tourism in the country.

He, therefore, appealed to all Cape Coasters, both home and abroad to come to the aid of the traditional council to enable it undertake development projects to supplement the government’s efforts at improving the living conditions of the people of Ghana.

The Omanhene urged his subjects to donate to the council to enable it accomplish the herculean task of developing the Oguaa township. In line with the activities preceding the festival, a ban on drumming and fishing in the Fosu Lagoon has been imposed to usher in other programmes for this year’s festival which will be rounded off with a durbar on Saturday, September 1.

Other activities will include bonfires by Asafo companies, beauty contest, renovation of Asafo shrines and regatta.
