Festival has no political undertones-VCC

Kumasi, Oct. 30, GNA – The Voltarians Co-ordinating Council (VCC), has stated categorically that the Amu Za Festival, a Traditional festival of descendants of the Volta Region resident in Ashanti region, has no political nor ethnic undertones.

Torgbui S. K. Fugah, Chairman of the VCC who made the statement said contrary to such speculations, the festival which started last October and expected to end October this year, is not aligned to any political party nor was it instituted to promote any party or ethic grouping of the Volta Region.

Torgbui Fugah made the statement when he addressed an emergency meeting of Co-ordinators and members of the Planning Committee of the Amu Za festival in Kumasi on Saturday.

He explained that the festival was rather instituted to bring together Voltarians resident in the Ashanti Region, irrespective of their political or ethnic background to enforce unity and share experience, while also enhancing their knowledge about traditional values, beliefs and norms of the Volta Region.

Torgbui Fugah therefore, entreated all Voltarians to ignore any negative propaganda against the festival and grace all the activities lined up for the festival to make it a memorable event. He said the festival, which has already gone through various stages, would be climaxed with a durbar of chiefs and people from the Volta Region and other parts of the country at Accra Town, a suburb of Kumasi, on December 10.

The meeting commended Torgbui Fugah for initiating the Amu Za festival which they described as historic. The VCC was also emphatic that the festival was dedicated to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene , for his fatherly care to the Voltarians and other ethic groups residing in his kingdom. Mr. Young Attipor, Ashanti Region, Organiser of the VCC said it was the plan of the VCC to make the Amu ZA festival an annual affair outside the Volta Region.
