FES to sponsor GJA again in run-off

Accra, Dec. 18, GNA – The German foundation, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), will sponsor activities of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) geared at enhancing media coverage of the run-off of the presidential election scheduled for December 28, 2008. A release signed by Mr. Bright Blewu, GJA General Secretary, on Thursday said the Foundation would provide support to the GJA to again make its headquarters, the Ghana International Press Centre (GiPC), an election resource centre for both local and foreign media personnel and an election results relay and dissemination centre for the media during the run-off.

The GiPC’s operation would be similar to that of the December 7 polls where certified results from the Electoral Commission would be posted on notice boards and PRO-info Interactive Limited would be based at the Centre, projecting them on giant scoreboards at the GiPC and 10 other regional locations. The release stated that two mobile content providers, Sedeli Enterprises Limited and Mobile Content Limited would also be stationed at the GiPC re-broadcasting certified results through mobile phone operators. It said journalists and other media personnel would keep vigil at the Centre awaiting results of the polls and music will be provided by a live band. The FES will also provide the GiPC with a standby electric generator.
