Winneba(C/R), Aug 14, – Female teachers have been urged to form special anti-rape task forces to protect innocent girls and women from rapists. Such groups must work in close collaboration with the Ghana National Association of Teachers Ladies Clubs (GNATLAS) in their districts to enlighten women on the dangers of rape. Mrs Cecilia Kwakye Cofie, Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Guidance and Counselling officer of the Ghana Education Service, made the call at a forum organized by leaders of the Winneba District branch of the GNATLAS as part of their week-long 10th anniversary celebrations. She called on all branch leaders of the association to ensure that male teachers in their localities involved in rape cases are severely dealt with in accordance with the law. She also stressed the need for GNATLAS to set up a special educational endowment fund to sponsor deprived girls and assist members of the association to undertake refresher courses to upgrade their knowledge. The Central regional Vice Chairperson of the GNAT, Mrs A. Adu- Mensah, assured members of the support of the association. She called for the cooperation, mutual understanding and unity of members to enable them to make more positive contributions to national development.
