Female politicians to sue over neglect

Some female politicians have suggested that the surest means to increase women’s role in governance is to sue political leaders who violate the United Nation’s threshold for women representation in governance.

The UN requires that at least 30% of women be involved in politics in developing countries. But so far, less than 15% of women are represented in governance in such countries.

National women’s organizer of the PNC, Janet Nabla, told the media court action is the best means to get political leaders to act.

“It is not easy as a woman in this country. Our decisions are not heard, our complaints are not heard anywhere because you have executives and you are the only woman organizer amongst them… they go outside to sign all these conventions to give 40% of representation to women only to return and do nothing. It’s about time we send men of this country to court, we are bound to win if we take them to court”.
