Female Photojournalists launch Power Poster Project

Foundation for Female Photo-journalists (FFP), a non-governmental organisation, has launched the “Power Poster” project, to raise public awareness on key development s in the country, on Thursday in Accra.

The project also seeks to empower Ghanaians and media personnel on themes of major developments, and to encourage the people to take progressive actions, to sustain development from the cultural perspective.

The initiative would further ensure that human development and peoples’ capabilities are enhanced, and their lives enriched in an equitable and sustainable manner.

The five-year project, which would be funded by FFP, is a development communication strategy, which would roll out different posters targeted at a wide-range of beneficiaries in the urban and rural communities.

The posters targeted at urban communities would be distributed through institutions, and the rural community posters would target districts in the Greater Accra and Western Regions.

It would explore photos, drawings, colours and words to communicate issues on health, agriculture, education, energy, environment, governance, family values and political participation.

Speaking at the event, Ms Mariam Millah, a communication expert, called for the initiation of good communication skills towards national development on, and cautioned that misinterpreted communication could result in disaster.

She said: “Communicating effectively helps citizens of a country to build trust and respect, foster learning and accomplish goals”.

Ms Millah said consistent public education on key development issues was important to keeping the citizenry alert, and to demand collective responsibility to change.

“One major result of this change is the eradication of poverty which has multi-dimensional activity,” she explained.

and appealed to individuals and organisations to support the FFP to ensure the success of the project.
