Feeding programme for orphans and street children launched

Kordiabe, (E/R), Oct. 19, GNA – The First Lady, Mrs Theresa Kufuor on Wednesday urged parents to ensure good nutrition for their children, to promote healthy growth and development.

She said though the value of proper nutrition for growing children were expensive, parents must put in more efforts to ensure that their children get enough nutritional supplement to enhance their growth. Mrs. Kufuor who was launching the first Annual Feeding Programme for orphans and street children at Kordiabe in the Dangme West District in the Eastern Region called on all parents to take advantage of the Free Compulsory Universal Basic Education (FCUBE) Programme and ensure that all children benefited from it, especially the girl child. The feeding programme known as the FINATRADE Foundation, was initiated in partnership with the Mother and Child Foundation as an annual event to promote good feeding among orphans and street children nationwide.

Mr Nabil Mourkarzel, Managing Director, FINATRADE Group, said one billion cedis would be dedicated each year towards the execution of the programme.

He said the Foundation had already disbursed 230 million cedis as bursaries for 46 brilliant but needy students to enable them to pursue courses in Agriculture in the Universities of Ghana, Cape Coast, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the University College of Education, Winneba.

He called on other companies and cooperate bodies to support the course of providing better lives for the needy and vulnerable in the society.
