At Kukuom in the Ahafo Region, President John Dramani Mahama has introduced the Vegetable Development Project, a key component of the Feed Ghana Initiative. He described the programme as a significant move to boost national food security and improve irrigation infrastructure.

During his address to farmers, traditional leaders and project partners on Thursday, November 27, the President highlighted that the project will feature a modern packhouse. This facility is expected to enhance “grading, sorting, packaging and cold chain management” for vegetables cultivated under the programme.

Outlining the implementation schedule, President Mahama stated, “The entire project has been carefully designed to be completed within 12 months.” He further explained that the model is intended to be expanded nationwide, with priority given to northern communities facing persistent dry-season water shortages.

“This Vegetable Development Project will be replicated in many other parts of the country, especially in the north, where water availability is a major challenge at many farm” President Mahama said.

President Mahama also connected the initiative to broader employment prospects. By strengthening the vegetable production sector, he noted, the government aims to create more jobs and advance its vision of a 24-hour agricultural economy one designed to support sustainable growth and accommodate the increasing workforce.
