Fee-free policy leads to increase in enrolment in Suhum district

Suhum (E/R), Oct. 5, GNA – The government’s fee-free basic education policy has led to marked increase in the enrolment of pupils in primary schools in the Suhum/Kraboa/Coaltar district. According to a source at the District Education Directorate at Suhum on Wednesday, many schools in the district had reported high enrolment figures that were making some classrooms congested since the re-opening for the academic year.

It noted that even some school drop-outs have had to return to school since they claimed to have dropped out due to the inability of their parents to pay their school fees.

The source said even though some of them were too grown for the lower classes, they were prepared to enroll in their previous classes to continue schooling.

The source advised parents who had not yet bought textbooks for their wards not to worry since the government would soon supply them with the books soon. Oct. 5 05
