Fear Grips Police As Armed Robbers Invade Barracks

Disturbing news reaching the Independent newspaper indicates that the nation’s security is under serious threat as criminals; particularly armed robbers appear to have directed their nefarious activities at the men in Uniform.

The security personnel who are to protect lives and property at Bunkpurugu Yonyoo district of the Northern Region are now living in fear because they are now victims of the disturbing armed robbery situation in the country.

According to reliable information available to The Independent, armed robbers last Tuesday night stormed the rented police barracks in Bunkpurugu Yonyoo and robbed them of their valuable belongings. The daring act by the armed robbers took place at the time the security officers were on night duty making sure indigenes of the district were protected.

Some of the items stolen included TV sets, sound systems, mobile phones, mattresses.Speaking in an interview, some of the police personnel who pleaded anonymity pointed accusing fingers at the police administration for failing to act on the Nankpanduri murder incident. They noted that, the police administration’s failure to arrest the murderer Johnson Kombian alias “Burger” has emboldened the armed robbers in the district.

The armed robbery attack on the policemen is expected to heighten the debate on the purported state of insecurity in the country. It will be recalled that in the wake of the attempted robbery and alleged mass rape on a bus, members of the Alliance For Accountable Governance (AFAG) last Tuesday held a press conference to express concerns over what they perceive as the recent spate of armed robberies and other social crimes is alarming and must be stopped.

They pointed out that, Ghanaians these days cannot live without fear of being attacked or abused. “If you travel on our highways and get home safely without being stopped and asked to rape yourselves, it is considered a miracle, if you watch your TV and listen to the radio for one week without a report of murder or causing grievous bodily harm, we think it is a divine intervention”, they pointed out.
