Fear grips Assorkor-Essaman following suspected murder

Assorkor-Essaman (W/R), Nov 14, GNA – Fear had gripped the people of Assorkor-Essaman, a farming community in the Shama Ahanta East Metropolis, following the discovery of the body of 24-year-old man suspected to have been murdered.

The body of Matthew Ayison was found lying along the Nchaban/Cape Coast highway with deep cuts on his forehead and palm on November nine. Mr. Mark Arthur, the Assembly Member for the area, told the Ghana News Agency on Monday that not less than four of such deaths had occurred in similar fashion over a period of time.

There is a self-imposed dusk to dawn curfew in the town and people avoid walking alone to and from nearby Shama junction after 1800 hours. Mr. Arthur said the youth, in collaboration with the area’s Unit Committee, have formed Community Protection Corps to ensure security for the people.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Augustine S. Anyarah, Sekondi District Crime Officer, confirmed the story and said the Police were conducting investigations into the suspected murder.
