FDB warns against Fibroid Uterus drug

Accra, June 17, GNA – Food and Drugs Board (FDB) on Thursday said it has not registered any drug from Blessed Herbal Clinic for the treatment of Fibroid Uterus.

A statement issued by Dr Stephen K. Opuni, Chief Executive of FDB advised the public that the safety and efficacy of the drug being used at the Clinic for the treatment of fibroid cannot be guaranteed. “Routine advert monitoring by FDB identified an advert running in the electronic media purporting that Blessed Herbal Clinic can cure fibroid, therefore women suffering from Fibroid Uterus do not need any surgical operation should rather go to the clinic for treatment.” The statement said management of the clinic were sanctioned by FDB and directed to take the necessary steps to immediately halt the said advertisement and any other advertisement that had no approval, as required by the Food and Drugs Law.

“All media stations airing the said advert must halt it immediately. In addition, all drugs being used for the said treatment has been quarantined for laboratory analysis by the FDB,” it added.

It asked media houses to collaborate with the board in ensuring public health and safety by airing only approved advertisements. The statement reminded the media that it is an offence to adverts regulated products that have not been approved as indicated in sections of the Food and Drugs Law.

It assured the public of its readiness to protect public health and safety at all times. 17 June 10
