FDB alerts public to unwholesome alcoholic beverages

Accra, April 7, GNA – The Food and Drugs Board (FDB) on Thursday alerted the public to the clandestine production and distribution of some alcoholic beverages by Fire and Silver Enterprise.

The beverages are; Sankofa Super Quality Brandy, Sankofa Super Quality Dry Gin, Sankofa Celebrated Aromatic Schiedam Schnapps, Sankofa Punch Citrus and Sankofa Ginger Drink.

The rest are; Sankofa Abe Nsuo, Congo Soldier Herbal Bitters and Silver Waist and Power King of Bitters.

In a statement copied to the GNA, the FDB said with the help of the Police it had apprehended Francis Kwesi Boakye, Managing Director of the Fire and Silver Enterprise, who had been producing and distributing the alcoholic beverages from his residence at Ablekuma in Accra.

The statement said investigations revealed that the alcoholic beverage products, which were not registered by the FDB, were produced under very unhygienic conditions and supervised by unqualified persons thereby compromising the safety and quality of the products. It said the company also used herbal extracts and synthetic colour of undisclosed identity for the formulation of the products thereby compounding the health risk associated with alcoholic beverages produced by the company.
