FDB alerts public on Miracle Mineral Solution

Accra, Aug. 11, GNA – The Food and Drugs Board on Thursday alerted the public about a pharmaceutical product known as 93Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS) or FAITH (The Immune Booster)” which, it said, could cause serious harm to health.

A statement signed by Dr Stephen K. Opuni, Chief Executive of FDB, sai= d the product from South Africa, with purported capabilities of curing malaria, hepatitis and tuberculosis, cancer, HIV and AIDS, H1N1 Flu, common cold and other conditions, could cause serious harm to health.

“There is no scientific research that proves that MMS is effective in treating any of the above mentioned disease conditions,” the statement said. It added that according to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the product, when used as directed, produced industrial bleach that could cause serious harm to health.

FDB said the product instructed consumers to mix MMS (which contains 28= % Sodium Chlorite Solution) with Citrus Juice 96 a mixture that produces Chlorine Dioxide, a potent bleach used for stripping textiles and industria= l water treatment.

“High doses of this bleach can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, an= d symptoms of severe dehydration, as well as gastrointestinal complications,= ” the statement said.

“The general public is therefore being advised against the usage of the said product and to report to the Food and Drugs Board or the police anyone found distributing or selling Miracle Mineral Solution or FAITH, The Immune Fortifier.” It said information from the general public on persons suspected to be in any practice possible of endangering public health and safety to FDB’s mandate is most welcomed through any of the following contact numbers; 0244337235, 0244337252, 0208204968 or 0244385086.
