FDA swoops on drug peddlers

Three people were arrested on Monday when the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and the Pharmacy Council carried out a swoop on drug peddlers operating in the Mafi-Kumasi market.

Working in collaboration with the Police, two pick-ups were filled with seized drugs and carted to the Volta Regional Office of the FDA for further scrutiny.

Mr Eugene Addo, Volta Regional Head of FDA said the drugs seized were in three categories, namely, prescribed drugs, pharmacist recommended ones, and over the counter drugs.

He said also seized were aphrodisiacs, body part enhancement preparations and snuffs.

Mr Addo said the illegitimate sale of drugs was a worrying situation that posed great danger to the health of patrons, adding that the environmental conditions under which the drugs were sold were equally not the best for such drugs.
