Fawohoyeden (B/A), Aug 7, GNA – The chiefs and people of Fawohoyeden, a farming community in Asunafo District, have launched a 100-million-cedi Education Endowment Fund to help increase access to formal education in the area.
Mr Ben Osei Kufuor, Member of Parliament for Asunafo North, told parents that ”knowledge remains the biggest and most treasured legacy they can bequeath to their children to enable them to face future challenges in life.”
Mr George Yaw Boakye, District Chief Executive, reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to improve existing infrastructure and personnel situation in schools in the district.
He said an additional junior secondary school block will soon be constructed at Fawohoyeden.
Mr Baryeh Amaniampong, District Education Director, deplored the abysmal academic records in the town and urged opinion leaders and parents to help institute measures to improve the situation.
He asked traditional leaders, School Management Committees and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTA) to report the conduct of deviant and non-performing teachers to the District Directorate for sanctioning. Nana Boakye Dankwah, Chief of Fawohoyeden, who is also Presiding Member of Asunafo District Assembly, appealed to residents and non-residents to contribute to the fund.
An appeal for funds yielded 10 million cedis.
