A 50-Year-old teacher of Assin-Breku Presbyterian Junior High School (JHS) in the Central Region has been arrested, together with his son, for the brutal murder of his 48-year-old wife, Yaa Asieduwaa.
Solomon Ernest Kenneth Appiah, a Religious and Moral Education (RME) teacher, and his son, Benjamin Appiah, 24, were apprehended last Friday and slapped with a provisional charge of murder, pending further investigations.
DSP Kingsley Owusu Bempah, the Assin Praso District Police Commander, said the two men were arrested on suspicion of having a hand in the murder of Yaa Asieduwaa.
The 48-year-old woman, a trader at Assin-Breku, was found dead on a cocoa farm in the community by some residents last Friday with a stab wound on the neck, he added.
She was said to have informed her husband last Thursday of her intention to visit a 70-year-old herbalist by name Ama Nkrumah, who lived in the area, for herbal medicine, but did not return.
The police commander said neither her husband Solomon Ernest Kenneth Appiah, nor son Benjamin Appiah reported her disappearance and subsequent death to the police until assembly members in the community notified the law enforcement officers about Yaa’s strange disappearance.
DSP Bempah told DAILY GUIDE the teacher claimed the news of his wife’s death reached him while he was at Assin Fosu processing documentations towards his promotion on Friday.
The police chief narrated that the husband informed detectives that the victim told him she was visiting the herbalist for medicine but did not return on that Thursday as she usually did.
According to Mr. Bempah, the 70-year-old Ama Nkrumah, when contacted, denied that Yaa visited her on the day in question.
She however admitted that the victim was her client who had been visiting her for medicine.
The police boss said the herbalist had been granted a police enquiry bail while further investigations continue to unravel the mystery surrounding the incident.
