Father Kill’s son over stolen coconuts

Axim (W/R), July 15, GNA – Mr John Afful, an 85-year- old farmer at Obayeboe, near Aiyinase in the Ellembelle District, has shot and killed his 25-year old son, Mr Erzuah Afful for allegedly stealing his coconuts on his farm.

The body of the deceased, also a farmer had been deposited at the Axim Government Hospital morgue for autopsy, while the accused, had appeared before the Axim District Magistrate Court, charged with murder.

Superintendent of Police David Lovelace Tesutor, Nzema East Municipal Police Commander, made this known to the Ghana News Agency at Axim in the Western Region.

He said about 2130 hours on July 11, the elder brother of the deceased, Mr Stephen Afful reported to the Police that his father had confided in him that he had killed his younger brother.

Supt Tesutor said the accused asked his son to assist him to dump the body of the deceased into River Fia but he refused and bolted to Nyamebekyere to report the incident.

He said the Police accompanied the complainant to the site and found the deceased lying prostrate with bruises on the face.

He said a locally manufactured gun with two rounds of ammunitions was found at the scene where the deceased was killed.

The accused told the Police that he caught his son stealing his coconut red handed but when he raised the alarm, the deceased took a stick to hit him and was forced to fire the gun in self defence.
