Father and two children perish in fire outbreak

Abuesi (W/R), July 6, GNA 97 Tragedy struck Abuesi, a coastal town in the Shama district, when a father and his two children and their father perished in a fire outbreak.

Ata Panyin, 35, the father and his two children Auntie Araba, two years and Mame Ekua, a one-and-a half month old baby girl, perished whilst sleeping.

The mother of the children, Mame Aisha, survived but sustained serious body burns and was rushed to the Effia-Nkwanta Hospital for treatment.

Narrating the incident to the Ghana News Agency in an interview on Wednesday, Mr Paul Awortwi, the Shama District NADMO Coordinator, said the incident happened at Abuesi in May, this year.

He said the building in which the family were sleeping caught fire while they were asleep at dawn.

Mr Awortwi said the father tried to rescue the children from the inferno but perished in the process and that only the mother survived.

The District NADMO Coordinator said that, the cause of the fire is not yet known but suspected electrical fault. Mr Awortwi indicated that, the Shama District Assembly and NADMO had given a cash sum of GHc500 to the family of the victims and appealed for public support to enable the only survivor, Mame Ashia pay off her medical expenses.
