Farmers warned of dangerous agro-chemicals

Ntribuoho (Ash), July 5, GNA- Farmers have been advised to be wary of dangerous agro-chemicals which certain people have prepared and are selling on the market.

Miss Christiana Naamwinyele, Agricultural Extension Agent for Ntribuoho in the Kwabre district, who gave the advice, said those chemicals are not only ineffective but also dangerous to human health. She was speaking at a farmers’ forum on safe use of pesticides. It was organised by the Agricultural Development Unit of the Kwabre District Assembly at Ntribuoho on Monday.

Miss Naamwinyele said there was the need for farmers to be aware of good and fake agro-chemicals so that they could protect their crops from destruction.

She advised that they buy pesticides from the offices of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) and registered agro-chemical shops and that they should use protective clothes when spraying their crops.

She advised them to adopt proper agricultural practices such as improved seeds, early weeding and row planting to improve their yields. Nana Kofi Mensah, Odikro of Ntribuoho, commended the government for supporting farmers to develop the agricultural sector of the economy.

He called on farmers to work harder to accelerate the development of the country.

Mr Sampson Adu-Poku, Assembly Member for Ntribuoho electoral area, asked the people to quarantine their animals so that they do not go out to destroy property and crops.

He called on the people who have pets such as dogs and cats to vaccinate them against rabies.
