Kumasi, June 26, GNA – Farmers in the Ashanti region have expressed concern about the strike by health workers in the country and called on the Government to do “something concrete” to get them back to work immediately.
Nana Kwame Amankwatia, Ashanti Regional Chief Farmer for the Ghana Cocoa, Coffee and Sheanut Farmers’ Association (GCCSFA), said the strike was affecting farmers most because the nature of their occupation made them vulnerable to hazards such as snakebites, cutlass wounds and frequent malaria.
“The strike by our health workers is unfortunate,” he told the GNA after a meeting of chief farmers to swear-in Nana Kusi Boadum, as Chief Farmer for Asante-Bekwai in Kumasi.
The Regional Chief Farmer appealed to the Government to respond positively to the demands of the health workers. Nana Amankwatia also appealed to the striking health workers to consider the plight of farmers and other vulnerable groups and return to work while the Government addressed their grievances.
