Farmer remanded over 10,940 grams of marijuana

A farmer caught with 10,940 grams of marijuana, has been ordered by a Kumasi Circuit Court to be held in prison custody.

Kwame Adu had been arrested with the substance by the police at Esaase, a community in the Bosome-Freho District.

He is charged with possessing narcotic drug without lawful authority and he pleaded not guilty.

The court presided over by Mrs. Mary Nsenkyire, directed that he made his next appearance on Tuesday, July 26.

Police Superintendent Emmanuel Akunnor said officers from the Ashanti Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit acted upon a tip off.

They received information that the accused had been dealing in illicit drugs and swiftly moved to his place, where a search uncovered the leaves packed in fertilizer sacks and cement bags.

He told the court that Adu admitted ownership of the stuff.

The prosecution said forensic laboratory test of samples of the leaves confirmed it was marijuana.
