Farmer remanded in custody for threat of death

Twifo Praso (C/R), May 12, GNA – Yaw Kyei, a 45-year-old farmer from Twifo Nyinase, was on Wednesday remanded in prison custody by the Twifo Praso District Magistrate Court for allegedly threatening to kill a 60-year-old woman, Madam Gladys Ohene, for allegedly encroaching on his farm.

Kyei, who pleaded not guilty, will re-appear on Wednesday, May 19. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector George Okine told the court presided over by Mr Joseph Blay that, Kyei and Madam Ohene share a common farm boundary at Nyinase and that on April 30, this year, Madam Ohene went to her farm and detected that Kyei had planted some plantain suckers on her newly cultivated farm.

Prosecution said that Kyei, who was hiding on the farm, and on hearing the voice of the Madam Ohene emerged from the bush with a cutlass and threatened to kill her, if she did not leave the farm. Inspector Okine said Madam Ohene raised an alarm and told Kyei that she was not alone on the farm but with a witness, and this put fear in Kyei and he run away. He said Madam Ohene rushed home and later reported the matter to the police and Kyei was arrested.
