A magistrate court at Akim Oda has granted GH?20,0000 bail to Akua Mmrah, a farmer, who allegedly strangled a 92-year-old colleague, who died later. Mmrah, 88, would reappear on August 30, 2012.
Police Chief Inspector Kwadwo Ahenkorah told the court presided over by Mr. Albert Owusu Annor that the complainant, a farmer, is the daughter of Madam Yaa Nsowaa, the deceased, who lives at Akim Kokobeng near Akim Oda with the accused person.
The prosecution said a land dispute ensued between the deceased and the accused.
Chief Insp. Ahenkorah said that on June 12 this year, Mmrah went to the farm and met Madam Nsowaa and the complainant discussing the disputed land.
The prosecution said when Madam Nsowa returned home, she went to a neighbour’s house to ‘fetch fire’ to set her own fire.
The court heard that Mmrah emerged from nowhere and accused the 92-year-old woman of insulting her, and strangled her.
The witness in the case appeared on the scene and rescued the old woman and sent her home.
Chief Insp Ahenkorah said the old woman later fell unconscious and was rushed to the Akim Oda Government Hospital, where she died.**
