Farmer remanded for selling a neighbor.

Ho, Jan 18, GNA – A Ho Circuit Court has remanded a 28 year-old farmer, Godwin Nunoamesi, alias Papa in Police custody for allegedly kidnapping and selling 21 year-old Miss Faustina Acquaye, a neighbor for 40,000 CFA.

Nunoamesi’s plea was not taken and was remanded until February 22, this year.

Police Inspector Emmanuel Okudjeto told the Court presided by Mr. Emmanuel Siameh that Nunoamesi and Miss Acquaye, a trader lived in the same area at Agortime-Kpetoe in the Adaklu-Anyigbe District. He said about five years ago, Nunoamesi connived with his girlfriend, now on the run, informed Miss Acquaye of a job opportunity in Benin.

Inspector Okudjeto said Miss Acquaye then embarked on the journey to Benin with Nunoamesi and his girlfriend unknown to her family. He said on reaching the Aflao Border, Nunoamesi introduced a man to the victim as her prospective employer in Benin and “varnished” together with his girlfriend.

Inspector Okudjeto said the supposed employer later allegedly informed Miss Acquaye that she had been sold to him for 40,000 CFA for rituals but he preferred her as a wife.

He said this led to an argument between the two but Miss Acquaye subsequently accompanied the man to Benin.

Inspector Okudjeto said four years later, a businesswoman from her hometown undertook a business trip to Benin where she met Miss Acquaye. Inspector Okudjeto said Miss Acquaye asked the woman to alert her family and the Police to come to her rescue.

He said following the information, Miss Acquaye’s family went to Benin with the help of the Police where they met Miss Acquaye cohabiting with the man with whom she had some children.

Inspector Okudjeto said investigations led to the arrest of Nunoamesi.
