Farmer remanded for dishonestly receiving a gun

Akyem Swedru, Sept 13, GNA – An Akyem Swedru Circuit Court on Wednesday remanded Aliu Osumanu, a 43-year-old farmer, into police custody for allegedly dishonestly receiving a single barrel gun. Osumanu whose plea was not taken would reappear on September 20.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Alice Appiakorang told the court presided over by Mr Edward Kwame Bosompem Apenkwah that in August the complainant’s house was broken into and mattresses, clothing, gas lanterns and an unserviceable single barrel gun stolen.

A report was made to the police and investigations led to the arrest of one Seidu Alidu who sent a gun that was among the stolen items to a blacksmith for repairs.

Police Chief Inspector Appiakorang said Alidu mentioned Osumanu as the one who gave the gun to him for repairs.

She said Osumanu was arrested and he told the police that someone brought the gun for sale but he refused to buy it.
