A circuit court at Akim Swedru in the Birim South District, has remanded a farmer in prison custody for allegedly conspiring with three others to steal 900 Ghana Cedis cash belonging to his tenant.
Kwabena Obeng, 45, from Akim Oda, pleaded not guilty to conspiracy, causing damage and stealing, and would reappear at court on March 27.
The court presided over by Mr. Yaw Atta Sampong issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Yaw Annor, 27, and Razak Anyangah, 22, who had absconded.
Police Detective, Inspector Wilberforce Kwaku Appiah, told the court that the complainant, Mr. Kwasi Mensah, a trader, and Obeng lived at Akim Oda.
The prosecution said in October 2010, Mr. Mensah rented a room at Akim Oda Old Town from Obeng.
Insp. Appiah told the court that on April 27 2011, the complainant returned from work late and detected that Yaw Annor and Razak Anyangah, both on the run, had damaged the door, entered his room and stole 900 Ghana Cedis.
The prosecution said when Mr. Mensah contacted Obeng on the matter, he (Obeng) said he ordered Annor and Anyangah to force the door open to enable them sleep in the room.
Insp Appiah said the complainant reported the case to the police and when Obeng was arrested he promised to refund the money, but failed to do so.**
