Farmer on bail for stealing four cows

Tema, March 30, GNA – Kwesi Emmanuel, a farmer at Gligony, near Agomeda in the Eastern Region, was on Tuesday granted bail in the sum of 60 million cedis by the Tema Circuit Court ‘B’ for allegedly stealing four cows valued at 15 million cedis.

He pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit crime and stealing and would appear again on April 22, this year.

A second suspect in the case, Mahamadu, a herdsman is now at large and a bench warrant has been issued for his arrest. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Ben Agbedanu told the court presided over by Mr Stephen K. Teye that the complainant, Osumanu Bashiru visited his Kraal at Gligony on January 15, this year and realised four of his 15 cows have been stolen so he lodged a complaint with the Dodowa Police for investigations.

Three days later Mahamadu, now at large was spotted by a family member of the complainant at an abattoir in Somanya, where coincidentally, a butcher was also suppose to make payment to Emmanuel for a cow he sold to him.

According to the prosecutor the butcher became suspicious and thinking the cow could have been a stolen one alerted the Police and Emmanuel was arrested as soon as he appeared to collect his money.
