Farmer jailed for posing as a policeman

Breman Asikuma (C/R), July 10, GNA – Mr Kingsford Otoo, a 30-year-old farmer at Odoben was on Friday jailed 12 months by the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District Magistrate Court, for posing as a public officer.

Otoo pleaded guilty and was therefore convicted on his own plea. Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector J. A. Naadutey told the court presided over by Mr Asmah Akwesi Asiedu that, on May 8, this year, Otoo told a number of people at a funeral gathering at Odoben that he was the new Detective Chief Inspector transferred from Kumasi to replace a Detective Lance Corporal, who had been transferred from the area. According to the prosecution Otoo further told the gathering that due to accommodation problem he was residing at Breman Asikuma, where he performed his official duties.

He said some concerned citizens reported the suspect to the police, where he was arrested and upon investigations, it was found out that he was not a policeman and was arraigned before the court.
