Farmer jailed for inflicting cutlass wounds on brother

Wassa-Akropong (W/R), Oct. 29, GNA – Kwame Annor, a 38-year-old farmer of Bonwia village near Wassa-Akropong in the Western Region was on Friday jailed two years by a Wassa-Akropong Magistrate’s court for inflicting cutlass wounds on his brother.

He pleaded guilty to a charge of causing bodily harm to Kwame Asare, 45 and also a farmer of the same village.

Police Chief Inspector John Katapu told the court, presided over by Mr. Frank Komla Mensah, that Annor and Asare who are brothers were given a cocoa farm as gift by their father Opanin Kwabena Acquah. They worked together, harvested and shared proceeds from the farm equally at the end of each cocoa season, the court heard. Chief Inspector Katapu said as usual the two brothers sold the produce of the last cocoa season but Annor secretly went to collect the money from the Purchasing Clerk.

On October 17, this year, Asare, the older of the two, went to the Purchasing Clerk to ascertain the truth and a quarrel ensued when he came home to confront his brother on the issue and they were separated. In the night of the same day, Annor went to his brother’s house with a cutlass and attacked him whilst he was asleep.

He inflicted deep wounds on the arms and back of the neck of Asare who was saved by people who heard his shouts for help. He was rushed to the Wassa-Akropong Government Hospital where he was admitted. 29 Oct. 05
