Sekondi, June 27, GNA – A Sekondi District Magistrate’s Court on Monday sentenced Jauarou Momuda Abubaka, a citizen of Benin, to three months imprisonment in hard labour for impersonation. The accused plead not guilty.
Prosecuting, Police Sergeant Victor Amenorpe said on June 5 the accused went to Daboase and introduced himself to Opanyin Kwesi Tawiah, the father of the District Chief Executive of Mpohor Wassa East, as Jauara Kakrabekawo.
He told Opanyin Tawiah, who was seriously sick, that he was the child that Opanyin Tawiah had with a woman from Benin some years ago and was now an officer in the Benin army.
Sergeant Amenorpe said the accused was well received in the house of Opanyin Tawiah as a result of this and he later met Tawiah Amprofi, the DCE.
He said the accused was able to defraud the DCE of one fowl and phone cards valued at 140,000 cedis.
Sergeant Amenorpe said on June 8, the DCE suspected that the accused was defrauding him and so arrested and handed him over to the police. He said during investigations it was found out that the accused person’s real name is Mamudu Abubaka, a farmer.
