Farmer jailed for assaulting uncle

Nsuta (Ash), Nov. 30, GNA – Kofi Sarkodie, a 40-year-old farmer, has been jailed three months by a circuit court at Nsuta for assaulting his uncle.

Sarkodie changed his earlier plea of not guilty to guilty and was convicted on his own plea.

Police Inspector Solomon Etrew told the court presided over by Mr Uuter Dery that at about 1330 hours on July 21 this year, at Boanim in the Afigya-Sekyere District of Ashanti, while the complainant Mr Philip Yaw Oduro was preparing his meals in his kitchen, the accused who lived in the same house with him returned from town drunk and without any provocation kicked the food on to the ground. He said when the complainant confronted him he took offence and beat him up mercilessly.

Inspector Etrew said again on July 31, Sarkodie returned home heavily drunk, pounced on the complainant and beat him up. A report was made to the police at Jamasi who arrested the accused and charged him with the offence after interrogation.
