Farmer jailed 15 years for robbery

A Tarkwa Circuit Court on Wednesday sentenced Bright Akwasi Owusu, a 32-year- old farmer, to 15 years imprisonment in hard labour for robbing, Alex Kissi, a taxi driver, at gun point on the Enchi-Asankragwa road.

The convict pleaded guilty to robbery and conspiracy.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Inspector Edward Paddy told the court presided by Mr Justice Samuel Obeng Diawuo, that on August 3, 2013, Kissi drove a Geo Prizm taxi with registration number WR 1184-Z from Enchi to Asankragwa with no passenger on board.

He said after driving three miles from Enchi, Kissi ran into robbers who had blocked the main Enchi to Asankragwa road with fire wood in flames.

Chief Inspector Paddy said the robbers stopped Kissi, attacked him, and took GH? 130, his mobile phone and a shirt.

He said the robbers asked Kissi to clear the road and while he was doing so, the robbers fled from the scene.

Chief Inspector Paddy said on August 4, Kissi saw the accused in Enchi township and identified him as one of the robbers who attacked him the previous day.

He said Kissi reported the convict to the Police and he was arrested to assist in investigations.
