Farmer jailed 15 years for possessing marijuana

A farmer caught with 10,940 grams of marijuana has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by a Kumasi Circuit Court.

Kwame Adu alias ‘Father’ was charged with possessing narcotic drug without lawful authority and he pleaded not guilty.

The Court, presided over by Mrs. Mary Nsenkyire, ordered that the dried leaves should be destroyed.

The convict was arrested on October 10, last year, at Esaase, a community in the Bosome-Freho District by the Police Drug Law Enforcement Unit.

Police Superintendent Emmanuel Akunnor told the court that the officers acted upon a tip off.

He said a search conducted in his room uncovered the stuff concealed five cement bags and two mini fertilizer sacks and that Adu admitted ownership.

Samples sent for forensic laboratory test confirmed that it was marijuana, he added.
